Video Production Training
In partnership with Melbourne Polytechnic we offer Certificate II in Creative Industries (Media) and Certificate III in Screen and Media accredited training for young people (15-25yrs) who experience homelessness or disadvantage. Our classroom model has Youth Workers, Job Pathways Coordinators, Media Industry Professionals and Teachers working together to provide layered support that is designed to create the best possible opportunity for young people to tap into their own inherent creative potential.
Youthworx is all about learning, doing and making. Students have creative control over writing and producing documentary, short films and radio shows. The curriculum is focused on film production, radio broadcasting and media industry knowledge. All students participate in presenting a weekly radio show for SYN 90.7 FM. As well as radio, students work on individual and group film and documentary projects gaining hands-on experience of media creation. Youthworx students also get 10 weeks paid industry experience. All courses are classified as full-time and fees are subsidised providing the young person is eligible.

Open Access Workshops
Our Open Access Workshop program is designed to give eligible young people a taste of filmmaking to see if this may be something they may be interested in pursuing further. It is targeted specifically at young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness so as long as the young people fit into that category we can offer:
- x 2-hour Introduction to Filmmaking workshop FREE for up to 6 participants. If there are over 6 participants we would need to charge $200 to cover the cost of a second Youthworx facilitator.
- If the participants are different each time, we can offer each 2-hour Intro to Film workshop FREE providing they are for 6 people or less.
- One-on-one mentoring (up to 10-hours per young person) for an at-risk young person who has expressed an interest in some aspect of filmmaking but is unable or unwilling to attend group workshops for whatever reason.
- If you wanted to run a longer filmmaking program/course (e.g. 5 x 2-hour workshops with a short film produced at the end, or similar) we could offer the first 2-hour workshop free and then charge fee-for-service for the rest at our standard workshop rates.
If you have any ideas for projects, or are working with young people and are not sure if they fit into our Open Access program, please just get in touch – we are always open to discussion. For Open Access enquiries please contact our Youth Worker Nicola at: firstname.lastname@example.org
